What Will We Do
Over the course of 2 days, the WSP team will walk the entire perimeter of the Makalali Private Game Reserve. The total distance is 95km and as the reserve is a BIG 5 Game Reserve in South Africa we can only walk during day light. Start time is sunrise, finishing at sunset on both days. A support vehicle to fill your water and snacks is available. They will also pick up the 'broken' people when necessary and tend to them. On average there is a 50% drop-out rate due to the erratic terrain and possible heat (even though it is winter). The record is held by co-owner of the Makalali Private Game Reserve and owner of Siyafunda Wildlife & Conservation, Mike. His record for covering the entire distance is an incredible 21 hours and 35 minutes. With this BIG Walk we will be raising money for Rhino Protection and Conservation. You can contribute by sponsoring our team, or, when you feel fit enough, join our team. |

Why is Rhino Conservation Important
Every year, about 30,000 elephants in Africa, 600 rhinoceroses in South Africa and, increasingly, lions fall victim to poachers. And the numbers, especially rhino poaching, have soared over the past years due to the global COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent loss of income for many people.
It is a problem that needs to be tackled simultaneously in several areas, culturally, economically, educationally, and on several continents in order to counteract both the supply and demand side of poaching. During our programs you actively participate in a conservation activity or sponsoring activity. You will have the opportunity to be part of a solution, to be part of the group of people who are not only talking about ending poaching and the pet trade, but you play an active role in preserving an (endangered) species in Africa . Whether it's de-horning a rhino, putting a tracking transmitter on an elephant, buffalo, lion or African wild dog; your contribution will save our wildlife for future generations to enjoy in the wild. |
From 2017 we have been taking groups of people to the southern African bush with our custom leadership programs aimed to reconnect people to nature and make an active impact on wildlife conservation. We believe life is an adventure and all of us are capable of making a positive impact on those around us when we allow nature to inspire us. All our expeditions take place in BIG 5 wilderness areas, outside of human populated environments. We believe that out of our comfort zones and into the wild, is where the magic happens. |
